Have anyone of you experienced scaling issue with Foirmaker? I'm using Makerbot to slice and get .x3g file.

So far I've printed models, that didn't require perfect match between design and print, but today I've printed a case and its scale was deviated by 5%. Do you see the same thing?

I guess one way to deal with it is to scale all projects before getting .x3g file, but I hope there might a be setting in Makerbot or ReplicatorG, that I'm missing and this one would be something about one-step size or alike?

Perhaps the amount of shells is messing it up, I think when it gives you all the measurements it only accounts for one shell. If you're using the maker-ware given to us, it defaults at 2 shells.

Not entirely sure, but it might be worth looking into if that's the case or not.

I have seen this also.
I will be making a short document on how to scale parts to fit as soon as I am able to figure out the exact size difference and what settings make it differ most.

@slackmaniac, I have checked this, setting shells (Settings -> Model Properties -> Number of Shells) to 1 and it didn't help, the print was still deviated.

@Mikael, that would be awesome, I'm sure this happens to even more people, so this guide would ease pain for many users.

Right now I'm scaling projects by +5.2% before I print, as this is rounded deviation I've measured across my prints (exactly 5,1977622377622%, but Makerbot has a precision to 2 places :p) and so far so good Smile.

What software are you guys using to make the models?
This could also be a STL export issue.

What resolution do you have on the stl export?
When I use solidworks it gives the option for stl resolution and the result does affect the dimension.

Unfortunately, there is no resolution option in netfabb, neither during export or in options.

I think you should test another application that gives an option for polygon resolution.
I noticed that circles are not round if the correct number of polygons are not set up.

Do you know or recommend any other software, that supports this feature and is free to try or use?

Thanks, will try out the normal size print with it tomorrow.
Just so I know beforehand, what resolution you set when exporting with Solidowrks?

Solved it!

I don't know if anyone experienced the same, but the solution is really stupid simple and I'm wondering why I haven't tinkered around this before - I guess doing 5,91% worked the same way Very Happy .

When using Simplify3d (or any other slicer), make sure to pick Replicator 1 Dual as a machine. The difference between them is basically timing pulley they use (Replicaor 1 Dual - 17teeth, Replicator 2x Dual - 18Teeth), so in the end steps/minute they are set with.

After this change sizes were back to normal Smile.
